Generally, the Gel Peel is suitable for all skin types as we custom-make the formula to be just right for your skin.

Please note that, for extremely sensitive skin and skin experiencing barrier dysfunction (eczema, psoriasis, etc), chemical peels are generally not recommended. Consult with your physician.

Even though the Gel Peel's innovative formulation makes it gentle to the skin, it may still produce a mild tingling sensation. However, this mild discomfort will typically subside once the peel solution has been neutralized.

In general, skin accustomed to the use of acids will tolerate stronger formulations.

The SkinCeuticals Gel Peel can produce some redness, similar to a mild sunburn, which may last 3 to 5 days.

You will not be able to wear any makeup on the treatment area after your session for the rest of the day.

You may notice some skin flaking 2-3 days after, followed by brighter, smoother skin!

Immediately after a chemical peel, skin becomes more photosensitive. It is absolutely necessary that a broad-spectrum sunscreen SPF is applied daily post-treatment, and that sun exposure is avoided or kept to a minimum.

POSSIBLE CHEMICAL PEEL SIDE EFFECTS:

Knowing what to expect after a chemical peel is an important element of preparation for the aftercare process.

- Redness, dryness, slight swelling and sensitivity are all common side effects to expect.

- Mild to intense peeling and flaking may also occur from 2-3 days after your appointment.

- Always avoid touching your face or ensure your hands are freshly washed if you must do so. It’s important to note that recovery times are highly dependent on the individual.

4 WEEKS PRIOR:

- NO other clinical procedures (chemicals peels, lasers, facials, microdermabrasion, microneedling, heavy exfoliations, etc.)

2 WEEKS PRIOR:

- NO excessive sun exposure or tanning beds

- NO using retinol/retin-A/vitamin A or other anti-wrinkle products

- NO strong AHA/BHA (including glycolic, lactic, salicylic acid, or any exfoliating ingredients, etc.)

- NO eczema creams, steroid/corticosteroid creams

- NO anti-acne products

1 WEEK PRIOR:

- No heavy exfoliations/scrubs

- No facial waxing

DAY OF TREATMENT:

- Expect to be with us for 45-60 minutes

- Wear loose, comfortable clothing with a loose neckline

* IF YOU HAVE USED ACCUTANE or equivalent, you MUST WAIT 6 MONTHS BEFORE YOU CAN RECEIVE A CHEMICAL PEEL. *

This depends on factors like:

• Your skin condition

• Your skin goals

• Peel intensity

• Proper aftercare regimen

• Number and regularity of treatments

Typically, clients start seeing clearer, hydrated, and de-congested skin as early as the first peel. However, for dramatic long-term improvement, it is recommended to do 4-6 treatments, 2-3 weeks apart and follow the aftercare prescribed by your skincare professional.

Adjusting your regular routine after a chemical peel will aid the repair process.

- Avoid retinols, AHA/BHA for 7-10 days.

- Implement a gentle skin care routine for 7-10 days. Use a soap-free cleanser such as the SkinCeuticals Soothing Cleanser, then tone with our Phyto Corrective Essence Hydrating Mist or Phyto gel. Finish up with a moisturizer such as Emollience or Triple Lipid Restore to comfort dry, sensitive feeling skin.

- After the initial 7-10 days, you may resume using your regular active-ingredient skincare products.

- ALWAYS wear SPF 50 broad-spectrum sunscreen (like this one!).
